Over 20 years experience in management with a strong visual sense, excellent problem solving skills, and the ability to translate and interpret codes, regulations and ordinances. A strong leader and team motivator with a thorough understanding of the development industry; to include planning, economic development, the comprehensive plan, Unified Development ordinance, building and fire codes. An organized and effective project manager, skilled at seeing the big picture and identifying task to facilitate timely and cost efficient completion. Knowledgeable in forecasting departmental needs, budget preparation and analysis, and monitoring expenditures in order to best utilize funding for city operations and activities. Work in conjunction with The Columbus Chamber of Commerce, Uptown Columbus, The Historic Columbus Foundation, Columbus City Council, and developers to build Public/Private partnerships with prospective businesses. Instrumental in the development and implementation of major city projects. Experienced in dealing with complex issues in all areas of development and construction on the city, state, and national level.
Selected Accomplishments

  • Converted manual inspection system to updated computerized system, including access from all inspection vehicles to retrieve records instantly and record inspections on-site.
  • Key player in development of city ordinances such as the Unified Development Ordinance, Sign Ordinance, Tree Ordinance, and Buffer Ordinance.
  • In 2001, the three model construction code organizations in the United States (Southern Building Code Congress, International Council of Building Officials, and Building Official Council of America) merged to form the International Code Council which provides codes used throughout the country.  At the time of merger, as President and Chairman of the Board of the Southern Building Code Congress, served as one of three chief negotiators for the successful merger of this $60 million company.
  • Served as negotiator with CEO for International Code Council for the successful development of the International Residential Code in conjunction with the National Association of Home Builders.
  • Implemented a chapter organization program, which to date has generated eight Inspector Chapters in Georgia, while serving as President of the Building Official Association of Georgia (BOAG).  Also, implemented a scholarship program which has been awarded to a worthy student each year since 1991.
  • Personally generated local interest in creating a chapter of BOAG and became the Founder of West Georgia Inspector Association.
