Gary has Thirteen years of experience as a Building Official and presently represents the City of SeaTac, Washington, in the Department of Community and Economic Development serving as the Building Services Manager; he also has eight years of experience as a Senior Building / Mechanical Inspector; fifteen years of experience in the construction trades, eight of which were spent as a construction inspector, three years as a construction foreman, and five years in the structural steel / commercial diving trades.

Former WABO Certified Welding Examiner and ICBO Evaluation Service Examiner.
Gary has been a member of the Washington Association of Building Official since 1998. During his time he served as committee chairman, officer, and ex-officio board member as past president. He also served on the Certification and Registration Committee where new certification programs were developed and implemented. Part of this responsibility included also serving as the chairmen of the Special Inspector and Registration Program that oversees the certification of several special inspection agencies, several hundred special inspectors, and about 7,000 certified welders.
He continues to serve as a member of the Finance, Outreach, Government Relations, Technical Code, Welding Advisory and Nominations Committees.

Major: Diving Technology, June 1972-1975.
Commercial diver training complemented with additional instruction in engineering, architecture, surveying, blueprint drafting and interpretation, welding, and mechanics.

In 2010, Gary spearheaded and completed work on a project with his local ICC Chapter to design and build an educational display of two walls, called the Good Wall / Bad Wall project. The walls are portable so that they can be moved around to different events such as home shows, farmers markets, fairs, etc. He created the design, organized work crews, and procured the materials and donations in order to debut it at the City of SeaTac’s birthday celebration event. With the use of a trailer van to store and transport it, the display has been made available for use by any jurisdiction throughout the Puget Sound region to promote good construction practices.
